ELMSBROOK GROW BEDS – EGB’S

Elmsbrook Grow Beds (EGB’s)

There are currently two Grow Bed plots on Elmsbrook located on Lovage View (Phase 2). We will also have some additional allotments once phase 4 of the development is completed.

Our Grow Beds are designed to allow residents to build up their skills and enthusiasm for growing their own food and at the same time to encourage a healthier life style.

If you’ve never grown anything before and simply want to have a go, or have done some growing but don’t feel ready for a full sized allotment, then our Grow Beds could be for you.

 Who can apply?

  • Anyone who lives on Elmsbrook eco town (OX27) can apply
  • If you are under 18 you can apply but you will need to have a parent or guardian who will sign the EGB agreement on your behalf and be responsible for ensuring that you keep to the ground rules.

How much does it cost?

We are currently offering the beds free of charge however this is due to be reviewed in Jan 2021 and could mean that a small charge is introduced. We will give you as much notice as possible if this is the case.

Who will get priority?

  • Residents who live in a flat and don’t have their own garden or an allotment elsewhere will be given priority.
  • Only one plot will be allocated per household. (This will be reviewed subject to supply and demand).

How are Grow Beds allocated?

We ask you to tell us what size bed you prefer but there’s no guarantee that we’ll be able to offer you the size that you ask for. If all of our Grow Beds have been allocated, we will keep a waiting list and contact you once one becomes available. Our Grow beds are allocated in consultation with our Elmsbrook Gardening Group.

What you need to commit to if you have a Grow Bed

  • Keeping to the Grow Bed ground rules
  • Supporting Elmsbrook Gardening group and working with the community to encourage a healthier lifestyle
  • Providing feedback, when requested, to A2D about the management of the Grow Beds

What happens if you don’t keep to the Grow Bed ground rules?

We want to offer you as much support as we can to grow your own fruit and vegetables. Elmsbrook Gardening Group will be on hand to offer you support and advice. If however you aren’t actively maintaining the beds in line with the ground rules, you will be asked to give up the Grow bed so that we can offer it to someone else on the waiting list.
